Real Solutions for Improving Assessment

Assessments should first and foremost be about supporting student learning and providing teachers with information that guides their instruction, yet students still spend too much time preparing for and taking assessments at the district and state levels that fail to authentically represent the skills and abilities we want students to develop. This document highlights AFT affiliates that are working to improve assessment practices to help readers identify changes they can push for at the classroom, school, district and state levels while large-scale change is being advocated for and worked toward at the federal level.
