Ergonomics
AFT members whose jobs require routine heavy lifting (students, patients, materials) are at risk of serious muscle strains and sprains. Learn how to assess what tasks and activities put you at risk of an ergonomics injury and ways to improve equipment and workplaces to reduce the prevalence of these injuries.
- MSD Discomfort Survey
Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are a category of illness that are the result of gradual and repeated exposure to workplace risk factors such as repetition and awkward posture. MSDs include a wide range of injuries to the muscles, tendons, tendon sheaths, nerves, ligaments, and discs of our arms, hands, wrists, shoulders, neck, back, and feet. It is extremely important to recognize the warning signs of an MSD in order to take proactive steps to correct the problems causing the pain. MSD’s can become completely and permanently disabling if conditions are not corrected. Use this survey as a self-assessment for potential musculoskeletal disorders that you can then share with your physician.
