AFT Resolution

WOMEN'S HISTORY WEEK

WHEREAS, an elementary school or secondary school history class provides the main opportunity for most Americans to learn about the history of the United States; and

WHEREAS, most of these classes and their textbooks have traditionally ignored the contributions made by American women during the entire history of our country; and

WHEREAS, there is a movement to attempt to change these inequitable conditions:

RESOLVED, that the celebration of Women's History Week in March of each year during the week of March 8th, International Women's Day, be observed by members of the American Federation of Teachers, with the encouragement of others to do likewise. (Executive Council)
