UNION COMMUNITY RELATIONS
WHEREAS, recent history with strike experiences has shown that boards of education, city administrations, and the press attempt to break teacher strikes by creating racial and ethnic divisions among union members; and
WHEREAS, those same anti-union forces seek to weaken unions by dividing teacher unionists from the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, in order to improve education for children, as well as the lot of teachers, our locals must remain strong and our strength is in our unity and solidarity:
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers' locals will continue to resist all attempts to create polarization by rejecting separatism espoused by any groups in our society; and
RESOLVED, that locals of the American Federation of Teachers will continue to build alliances of all teachers, parents, and citizens for better education.
