AFT Resolution

TESOL COALITION

WHEREAS, the Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages, TESOL, is a vital and continuing aspect of education; and

WHEREAS, federal funding for TESOL programs has been reduced without a concomitant increase in state funding; and

WHEREAS, the influx of non-native speakers can no longer be considered a temporary phenomenon:

RESOLVED, that the AFT join in a coalition with TESOL to develop and actively support legislation to provide adequate funding and recognition of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; and

RESOLVED, that this resolution be forwarded to the AFL-CIO for its consideration and support.
