SUPPORT LINCOLN LEGACY WEEK

WHEREAS, the Lincoln Memorial has served as a platform for citizens to exercise their democratic freedoms in support of civil rights, equal rights and constitutional rights; and

WHEREAS, the Lincoln Legacy has inspired Americans, like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to gather at the Lincoln Memorial in order to share their dreams and lift their voices for a better America; and

WHEREAS, the AFT has been one of the leaders in the Lincoln Memorial Museum project from its inception; and

WHEREAS, AFT teachers and their students have supported and collected over $30,000 for the Lincoln Memorial Museum project:

RESOLVED, that the AFT support the campaign to designate the week of February 7, 1993, through February 13, 1993, as Lincoln Legacy Week and encourage teachers nationwide to collect pennies to build the exhibits in the Lincoln Memorial Museum.
