SUBMINIMUM WAGE BILL

WHEREAS, Congress has authorized the participation of employers in the college work-study program to employ students at the wage rate of 80 percent of the present minimum hourly wage; and

WHEREAS, the AFL-CIO has publicly condemned and denounced the subminimum wage amendment of the Higher Education Act:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers calls upon Congress to rescind this amendment and to place college students under the provisions of the minimum wage law applicable to all other workers.
