AFT Resolution

SHARING EDUCATIONAL POLICY DECISION MAKING

WHEREAS, public education in this country is in dire straits; and

WHEREAS, an alliance of teachers, students, and parents is necessary to reallocate resources:

RESOLVED, that American Federation of Teachers locals work to bring about structural reform of governing bodies in our school systems so that power to determine educational policies, including money expenditures, curriculum and the educational emphasis be shared among teachers, students, and parents. This resolution would in no way abrogate the teachers' individual and/or collective rights guaranteed by the Constitution, contractual agreements and tenure laws.
