AFT Resolution

SAFETY IN OUR SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, students, school employees, and citizens in many school districts are unable to go to and from their schools in safety; and

WHEREAS, students and school employees are often attacked in and around their schools; and

WHEREAS, school employees may be denied use of school buildings before and after regular school hours due to the inability to guarantee their safety; and

WHEREAS, after school conferences and activities designed to strengthen the link between school and home are threatened by the danger of remaining in school buildings after the regular school day:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers seeks sufficient law enforcement in and near school buildings; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers lobbies for workers' compensation supplements for assaulted school employees; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers pursues state and federal tax incentives for school employees' use of home office space; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers works with its locals to help them convince their boards of education to implement measures that will increase safety of students, school employees, and citizens in our schools.
