SAFE STAFFING LEVELS IN HEALTH CARE INSTITUTIONS

WHEREAS, it is recognized that there are occupational safety and health hazards in the health care environment; and

WHEREAS, it is both reported and documented that there is a critical shortage of practicing nurses within the health care system; and

WHEREAS, staffing numbers are determined by individual health care institutions:

RESOLVED, that FNHP/AFT Research the incidence of work-related injuries and illnesses and their relationship to the nurse shortage problem and use this information to promote safe staffing levels within institutions through appropriate legislation and collective bargaining.
