AFT Resolution

SABBATICAL LEAVE

WHEREAS, it is necessary for teachers to travel; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary for teachers to study further in their field; and

WHEREAS, teachers should be given an opportunity to do creative work:

RESOLVED, that a teacher should be eligible to take a sabbatical leave every seventh year of service, if he wishes; and

RESOLVED, that a sabbatical leave may be taken for purposes of study, travel, or other reasons; and

RESOLVED, that a teacher should receive, during his sabbatical leave, not less than full salary for a half year and half salary for a full year; and

RESOLVED, that he shall retain those full pension benefits and salary schedule rights to which he would have been entitled in regular employment; and

RESOLVED, that he should be guaranteed a return to his regular position and place of employment unless a change is made by mutual assent.
