AFT Resolution
THE ROLE OF JUNIOR, COMMUNITY AND STATE COLLEGES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
WHEREAS, the AFT recognizes the growing importance of the junior, community, and state colleges in higher education, and the likelihood that these colleges will be responsible for an ever-increasing share of under-graduate education; and
WHEREAS, there are differences in nature between college education and pre-college education and the separate problems posed by each:
RESOLVED, that the AFT urges that these institutions be freed from the control of governing boards whose responsibilities extend to the areas of elementary and secondary education, and be placed under boards which have administrative and financial powers commensurate with their roles and whose concern is higher education.
