AFT Resolution

RETIREMENT CREDIT FOR MATERNITY LEAVE

WHEREAS, in the past women have been forced by local school districts to take extended maternity leaves thereby reducing their credit toward retirement:

RESOLVED, that women be entitled to purchase credit toward retirement for time spent on forced maternity leave; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers and its state and local affiliates negotiate in contracts and/or support legislation to permit this purchase of retirement credit. (Executive Council)
