AFT Resolution

RETIRED TEACHERS

WHEREAS, AFT members, especially those teaching in large urban centers, are retiring in greater numbers than ever before; and

WHEREAS, it is important that all possible efforts be made both by the national office and by AFT affiliates to induce these retirees to remain as members; and

WHEREAS, retired teachers have no bargaining unit:

RESOLVED, that the Executive Council appoint an ad hoc task force to prepare a coordinated organization campaign and to suggest a program of activities-legislative, educational, political, cultural-to attract retirees to membership; and

RESOLVED, that such task force be set up early during the 1977-78 school year; and

RESOLVED, that this task force consider that the AFT use its national structure to foster the formation of local and state retirement committees and chapters. (Executive Council)
