RESOLUTION ON AFT SUPPORT FOR BARGAINING RIGHTS AT SAINT LEO COLLEGE, FLORIDA
WHEREAS, the United Faculty of Saint Leo College, Local #3440, FEA/United, AFT, AFL-CIO was chartered in the Spring of 1975 and was elected bargaining agent in April 1976, and has negotiated since June 1976; and
WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers is committed to collective bargaining in private colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, the Catholic Church affirms the right of workers to act collectively; and
WHEREAS, St. Leo College, a Catholic four-year college, subverts this right by discharging tenured union leaders without cause and by refusing to bargain in good faith; and
WHEREAS, on August 4, 1977, the FEA/United Executive Council reaffirmed its support of the United Faculty of St. Le
RESOLVED, that the AFT condemns and deplores the tactics of the St. Leo College administration; and
RESOLVED, further that the AFT endorses the struggle of the United Faculty of St. Leo College to remain viable; and
RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the National Catholic Bishop's Advisory Commission for its next meeting.
