AFT Resolution

REGARDING SOCIAL SECURITY, MEDICARE AND MEDICAID

WHEREAS, the earned benefits of Social Security, Medicare and the Medicaid safety net are of concern to all seniors and near seniors; and

WHEREAS, there are simple solutions to bolster these programs; and

WHEREAS, the concept of vouchers, income surcharges and income ceilings will make standards of living more difficult for seniors to maintain; and

WHEREAS, these programs allow seniors to enjoy a healthy, economically stress-free retirement:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers monitor federal legislation and lobby our legislators to minimize economic challenges to current and future retirees and foster simple solutions to necessary changes to ensure the continued success of these earned benefits.
