PROFESSIONAL STAFF

WHEREAS, in the colleges and universities, many non-instructional but nonetheless essential educational functions are carried out by highly trained professionals in areas such as student affairs, technological services, and non-managerial administration:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers recognizes the essential role played by the professional in educating the whole person; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers encourage all of its college and university locals to negotiate for all employees eligible for membership in the American Federation of Teachers, employees terms and conditions of employment including salary, appointment year, sabbatical, tenure and other appropriate matters equivalent to full faculty status.
