AFT Resolution

PENSION DISCRIMINATION

WHEREAS, most pension plans both public and private, base cost and benefits on actuarial tables; and

WHEREAS, these tables categorize persons simply on the basis of their sex: and

WHEREAS, these tables unfairly penalize women:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers vigorously pursue a program which would prohibit pension systems from maintaining differentiated pension benefits according to sex, including urging local funding of class action suits.
