PARENT-COMMUNITY OUTREACH
WHEREAS, more effective schools and improved student performance are of great concern to teachers, parents and the public; and
WHEREAS, the AFT recognizes that parents and community groups are our greatest potential base of support for improving education; and
WHEREAS, factors outside of school have an impact on students' motivation, interest and desire to achieve; and
WHEREAS, students reflect home and community attitudes towards school and learning:
RESOLVED, that AFT urge its locals to strengthen the school-family-community in order to emphasize that education is a shared responsibility; and
RESOLVED, that AFT locals seek to establish cooperative, informational, and educational forums with parents and the public in order to work toward common goals which will have positive impact on students and schools; and
RESOLVED, that AFT collect and disseminate information on successful parent outreach programs and strategies to all of the locals in the nation.
