NOTIFICATION OF STRIKE ACTION
WHEREAS, locals of the American Federation of Teachers sometimes find themselves in situations wherein a dispute exists between the local and an employing board of education; and
WHEREAS, when all other means for settlement of this dispute have been exhausted the locals may find it necessary to withdraw services by means of a strike; and
WHEREAS, the decision to strike must be made by the members of the local; and
WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers, by convention action has recognized the right of locals to strike under certain circumstances; and
WHEREAS, strike action by one AFT local may affect other locals throughout the country; and
WHEREAS, the experience and knowledge available through the National Office may enable the local to effect a suitable settlement:
RESOLVED, that every local of the American Federation of Teachers be required to notify the National Office of the AFT prior to the initiation of a strike vote or strike action.
