AFT Resolution

NEA/AFT PARTNERSHIP ON HEALTHCARE ISSUES

WHEREAS, the NEA and the AFT are committed to working together through the NEAFT Partnership to promote affordable, high-quality healthcare for members and their families:

RESOLVED, that AFT implement a joint program with the NEA that includes the following activities:

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • develop resource materials for members on healthcare cost, quality and access and the underlying reasons for health insurance increases;
  • explore the feasibility of creating statewide or multi-jurisdictional prescription drug-purchasing pools to help control rising costs;
  • train leaders and staff in joint local, state or regional meetings to help prepare them for healthcare bargaining; and
  • assist affiliates in exploring the impact on reducing increases in the cost of health benefits of pooling healthcare purchasing and, where appropriate, conduct joint efforts to establish such pools.
