MENTOR INTERN/FUND FOR INNOVATION
WHEREAS, the current fiscal crisis has resulted in a loss of momentum in the reform movement; and
WHEREAS, AFT has endorsed programs like New York state's Mentor Intern and Fund for Innovation programs; and
WHEREAS, there continues to be an urgent need for the highly successful Mentor Intern to keep the reform movement alive with new ideas; and
WHEREAS, the Fund for Innovation program resulted in many highly successful reform experiences that increased teacher empowerment and professionalism; and
WHEREAS, the spirit of true education reform cannot be fully implemented without innovative professional programs such as Teacher Centers, Mentor Intern and Fund for Innovation programs:
RESOLVED, that AFT make intensive efforts to get federal support for these creative programs; and
RESOLVED, that AFT urge the Congress to create and maintain a special source (title) of funds to promote and sustain innovative educational practices.
