AFT Resolution

LOCAL SOLIDARITY ACTION WITH STRIKING BROTHERS AND SISTERS IN THE AFL-CIO

WHEREAS, the AFL-CIO has called a nationwide "Solidarity Day" in Washington, D.C. on September 19, 1981; and

WHEREAS, the AFT will be making every effort possible to make this demonstration against the Reagan cutbacks and for jobs the largest in the history of our nation; and

WHEREAS, the U.S. government has chosen to fire brother and sister trade unionists in Service Employees International Union Local 105 at the Federal Building in favor of "contracting out" their services to non-union labor; and

WHEREAS, members of this local are currently picketing the Denver Federal Building at 19th and Stout Streets in order to save their jobs:

RESOLVED, that the 65th Convention of the AFT pledge its full support of Solidarity Day; and

RESOLVED, that the delegates of the 65th Convention show solidarity with SEIU now against the federal cutbacks and government sponsored union-busting by joining with SEIU pickets for one hour immediately following Thursday morning (July 9, 1981) session without disrupting the conduct of the convention.
