AFT Resolution

LIMITATION FOR YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Many teachers throughout the country are limited to the number of years experience credit on salary schedule if they transfer to another school system.

WHEREAS, the teaching profession is the only profession where this limitation is generally practiced; and

WHEREAS, this policy was founded on the principle of teacher shortages; and

WHEREAS, this presents a serious hardship for the teachers of our country:

RESOLVED, that the executive council is directed to seek through legal and/or legislative means to eliminate limits on the number of years of experience credit for newly hired teachers; and

RESOLVED, that it be the policy of the AFT to encourage and assist member locals to eliminate such limitations through collective bargaining.
