AFT Resolution
LIBRARY MEDIA STANDARDS AND SERVICES
WHEREAS, professional school library media services are an integral part of the educational process on all school levels; and
WHEREAS, each individual child has a right to the professional services of library media specialists and access to an adequately equipped central school library media center;
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers support:
- federal, state and local legislation which mandates professional school library services in all schools, on all divisional levels, and in all school sessions (day, evening and summer)
- a realistic school librarian-pupil ratio in all schools consistent with recognized professional standards (the specifics of which will be developed by the "AFT Committee on School Library Standards" which was established at the 1969 Convention). (Executive Council)
