AFT Resolution

LIBRARY FACULTY

WHEREAS, library faculty in colleges and universities perform faculty responsibilities including instruction in learning skills; student guidance; administrative assignments; development of subject knowledge and expertise; research and scholarly writing for publication; faculty committee assignments; and professional development by means of seminars, conferences, and courses; and

WHEREAS, library faculty are required, as are their teaching colleagues, to possess advanced degrees for appointment and promotions; and

WHEREAS, library faculty are evaluated, as are their teaching colleagues, on criteria which take these responsibilities and requirements into account:

RESOLVED, that the AFT fully support efforts by AFT bargaining agents to achieve full faculty status for librarians including academic year appointments, a work week equitable with that of teaching faculty, and full faculty salaries.
