AFT Resolution

LABOR STUDIES

WHEREAS, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Movements was organized on Nov. 15, 1881, to embrace every trade and labor organization in North America; and

WHEREAS, the Federation of Organized Trades was the predecessor; and

WHEREAS, 1981 also marks the 25th anniversary of the merger of the AFL and the CIO; and

WHEREAS, the AFL-CIO has declared that 1981 should commemorate the centennial of American Labor; and

WHEREAS, the centennial anniversary provides an opportunity to acquaint the citizenry with the unique and valuable contributions of the labor movement in the nation's development:

RESOLVED, that AFT develop curriculum materials in the area of labor studies; and

RESOLVED, that AFT plan ways of disseminating labor materials to community groups as well as teachers; and

RESOLVED, that members be used to incorporate lessons on labor's history and contributions in their classroom teaching.
