LABOR LAW REFORM
WHEREAS, the Reagan administration has set back the rights of organized labor in many parts of the country; and
WHEREAS, many unions are experiencing incredible legal difficulty in organizing efforts; and
WHEREAS, collective bargaining remains the best method of promoting workplace democracy and increasing economic competitiveness; and
WHEREAS, President Reagan has vetoed the "plant closing" legislation promoted by the AFL-CIO and the Congress; and
WHEREAS, unions, families and communities are frequently disrupted by sudden closing of factories; and
WHEREAS, a new administration will take control in January 1989:
RESOLVED, that AFT urge AFL-CIO to introduce and re-emphasize its labor reform program; and
RESOLVED, that AFT urge AFL-CIO to continue to promote plant closing notification legislation; and
RESOLVED, that AFT and AFL-CIO continue to promote the appointment of impartial mediatory to such federal organizations as the NLRB.
