AFT Resolution

INCREASED FEDERAL SPENDING FOR EDUCATION AND OTHER SOCIAL SERVICES

WHEREAS, the percentage of the budget allotted to education has decreased by 25 percent; and

WHEREAS, the budget indicates a preference for "guns" over "butter," while we are at a time of peace; and

WHEREAS, increasing federal funds are the only major source of revenue for our financially troubled cities and school systems:;

RESOLVED, that the AFT call upon Congress to restore and increase the amount of federal money allotted to education and other human needs in the 1982 budget; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT continue joint, mass lobbying and educational campaigns with other unions in the AFL-CIO to accomplish this; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT concentrate its election efforts on those congressional representatives who worked for the defeat of the Reagan budget.
