AFT Resolution

HEALTH PLANNING

WHEREAS, health planning is a device for reducing health care costs; and

WHEREAS, health planning through certificates of need actively attempts to control and/or eliminate excess hospital beds and services; and

WHEREAS, elimination of health planning would lead to an estimated 50 percent increase in capital construction over the next four years; and

WHEREAS, health system agencies provide consumer input into health planning:

RESOLVED, that American Federation of Teachers/Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals go on record in support of continuation of local, state and national health planning agencies; and

RESOLVED, that American Federation of Teachers/Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals encourage all locals to become involved with local health systems agencies whenever possible. (Executive Council)
