AFT Resolution

FUNDING OF PUBLIC EDUCATION AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL

WHEREAS, the current recession has resulted in a budget crisis for the public schools at federal, state and local levels of funding; and

WHEREAS, massive increases in public school funding will be necessary to fund the AFT's proposed "Educare" program of early childhood education, worker sabbaticals, adult education, and teacher internships:

RESOLVED, that the AFT support the shifting of a larger portion of the present federal budget to federal aid to education for the purpose of implementing the AFT's Educare program.
