FUNDING CUTS AT NATIONAL LABOR RELATIONS BOARD
WHEREAS, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is charged with enforcement of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA); and
WHEREAS, adequate funding will allow the agency (NLRB) to fulfill its legislated mandate to aid in the prompt and peaceful resolution of labor and management differences; and
WHEREAS, the economic atmosphere of the year 1983 is expected to cause an increase in unfair labor charges and representational petitions, and WHEREAS, further budget restraints and/or decreases in agency funding levels will only serve to further restrict the ability of the NLRB to facilitate a timely processing of complaints thus delaying justice:
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers/Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals supports the proposed budget of the National Labor Relations Board which adequately reflects the needs of the agency to fulfill its legislated mandate; and
RESOLVED, that American Federation of Teachers/Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals vigorously opposes any funding restrictions or budget cuts which may be considered by the current administration.
