AFT Resolution

FULL FEDERAL FUNDING OF PUBLIC EDUCATION

WHEREAS, education throughout the country is suffering disastrous budget cutbacks; and

WHEREAS, students are in need of individualized attention through smaller classes, additional teachers, and more paraprofessionals and other educational personnel; and

WHEREAS, the continued viability of public education depends on the federal government paying its full and fair share of educational costs:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers demands that the federal government invest appropriate and much-needed resources in public education; and

RESOLVED, that AFT presses for the full funding of education appropriations for our students' needs; and

RESOLVED, that AFT engages in all necessary political action in cooperation with the AFL-CIO, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, and other citizen and parent groups which share AFT's goals for education-to win adequate federal funds for the public schools, colleges and universities.
