AFT Resolution
FRINGE BENEFITS
WHEREAS, in many school systems school boards pay only a part or none of a teacher's family hospitalization plan; and
WHEREAS, many school systems limit the number of fully paid sick leave days to which a teacher is entitled; and
WHEREAS, many school systems do not provide teachers with any paid leave for personal business; and
WHEREAS, in many school systems teachers must now pay the entire amount of their retirement contributions; and
WHEREAS, all of these items are fringe benefits which can be gained for teachers:
RESOLVED, that affiliates of the American Federation of Teachers work toward effecting into collective bargaining contracts for teacher welfare:
- full family hospitalization benefits paid entirely by school boards.
- unlimited sick leave.
- personal leave of not less than five days per school year which is not subject to question and approval by supervisors; and
- complete retirement paid by school boards.
