FREEDOM FOR YAKOV SUSLENSKY
WHEREAS, Yakov Suslensky, a Soviet teacher, is now serving a seven-year term in Vladimir prison for demanding the right to emigrate to Israel; and
WHEREAS, the charge against Suslensky was "spreading anti-Soviet literature" and "intent to undermine the Soviet regime;" and
WHEREAS, Suslensky has just suffered a "cerebral pressure" after serving two consecutive terms in an isolation cell because of his letters of complaint about camp conditions; and
WHEREAS, Suslensky has been threatened with confinement in the prison's mental institution if he persists in his complaints:
RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers, with a strong belief in the cause of justice and humanity and the free expression of opinion demands that Yakov Suslensky be freed and allowed to emigrate to the country of his choice.
