FORMATION OF NON-PUBLIC SCHOOL LOCALS

WHEREAS, a large number of American citizens have been and are being educated in non-public schools; and

WHEREAS, the teachers in these schools are performing a public service for these students and for the nation; and

WHEREAS, one of the constitutional objectives of the American Federation of Teachers is "to raise the standards of the teaching profession by securing the conditions essential to the best professional service:"

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers shall encourage and foster the formation of locals of teachers in the non-public schools of the nation; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers shall strive to improve the conditions under which these teachers engage in the teaching profession by assisting locals of these members to obtain contracts which will achieve for these teachers the conditions necessary to raise the standards of the teaching profession in these non-public schools.
