AFT Resolution

FMLA IMPROVEMENT

WHEREAS, experience has demonstrated that the Family and Medical Leave Act has been very helpful to families and individuals without damaging the economy; and

WHEREAS, President Clinton's budget continues to promote initiatives to help working families; and

WHEREAS, all major scientific studies reinforce the fact that "infant years" are critical to later success; and

WHEREAS, all the economic benefits of investing in early child care and education have now been firmly established:

 

RESOLVED, that AFT continue its support for federal funding for early childhood care and pre-K programs; and

RESOLVED, that such support include an effort to expand the FMLA from its current 12 weeks to a period of 39 weeks.
