AFT Resolution

FAMILY ASSISTANCE IN EDUCATIONAL EXPENSES

WHEREAS, tax credits for reimbursement of higher education expense will be used to erode public higher education; and,

WHEREAS, this in turn will tend to reestablish a class society and reduce mobility; and

WHEREAS, other forms of higher education assistance, such as direct student aid, are more in keeping with the objectives of a pluralistic society:

RESOLVED, that the Moynihan-Packwood Bill providing for tax rebates on education expenses be rejected in favor of expanding direct student aid to students who are at least one-fourth time.
