THE EVOLUTION OF WORK

WHEREAS, the changing nature of the American workforce will require that every American reach new levels of skill and performance; and

WHEREAS, this higher level of performance will require new approaches to education and training; and

WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers has supported changes in the structure of schools and in the nature of the delivery of education services:

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers seek changes in our education and training systems that encourage programs designed to prepare students for the changing world of work; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers support initiatives to open public schools to a wide range of education opportunities for citizens of all ages and educational need; and

RESOLVED, that the American Federation of Teachers pursue coalitions with organized labor, business, education organizations, institutions of higher education, citizens groups and government representatives to foster the necessary changes to accomplish these goals.
