AFT Resolution

ETHNIC STUDIES

WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers recognizes the continuing struggle of black and other ethnic groups to achieve equality of opportunity on college campuses; and

WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers believes firmly that American education should involve equally all segments of the population:

RESOLVED, that all colleges and universities be urged to develop specific courses providing a balanced presentation of the contributions of black and other ethnic groups to the historical background of the modern world; and

RESOLVED, that the cultural contributions of all ethnic groups in history, literature, art, music and the theater be made known to all students in order to reduce the mythology of racial inferiority; and

RESOLVED, that colleges and universities make every effort to recruit competent faculty from black and other ethnic groups, to allow all ethnic groups to participate in the institutions actively in community affairs.
