THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT

WHEREAS, a new effort is under way to achieve favorable action on the Equal Rights Amendment in Congress and the state legislatures; and

WHEREAS, ample publicity for the exact text of the ERA is essential to its adoption; and

WHEREAS, favorable commitment to the ERA by federal and state legislators is essential to its adoption:

RESOLVED, that the 1983 convention of the American Federation of Teachers strongly recommends to all AFT affiliates and members that they widely publicize the exact text of the ERA and refutations of the misconceptions concerning it; and

RESOLVED, that the national publications of the American Federation of Teachers consistently report on the progress of these campaigns for the ERA.
