AFT Resolution

EMPLOYMENT AND PROMOTION CRITERIA

WHEREAS, the selection of teachers for employment and promotion in public school systems is sometimes based upon race, sex or religious reasons or political or organizational affiliations; and

WHEREAS, selection on such basis is discriminating and contrary to the basic principles of fair play and democratic procedure:

RESOLVED, that the AFT reaffirms its opposition to the use of race, sex or religious criteria or political or organizational affiliations for the employment and/or promotion of teachers in public school systems; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT urge locals to set up teacher participation in employment and/or promotion of teachers in public schools and to promote the use of appropriate criteria.
