AFT Resolution
EMPLOYEE RETIREMENT INCOME SECURITY ACT (ERISA)
WHEREAS, the rules governing public employee pension plans vary from state to state; and
WHEREAS, in some states public employee pension plans do not always reflect the direct concerns of their constituents by not having elected constituency boards; and
WHEREAS, in the private sector the federal government has enacted a set of standards that address multiemployer private pension plans:
RESOLVED , that the AFT lobby actively in support of the AFL-ClO's effort to extend ERISA rights that govern multi-employer pension plans to single employer plans; and
RESOLVED, that the AFT, in conjunction with the AFL-CIO, lobby to extend those same ERISA pension regulations to cover public employee pension plans not otherwise secured.
