DISCRIMINATION IN TEXTBOOKS
WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers abhors and opposes discrimination in any of its manifold forms; and
WHEREAS, the American Federation of Teachers should be especially alert for the discriminatory treatment of minority problems or of minority groups in regard to textual materials used in educational systems; and
WHEREAS, there now exists ample indication to suggest that such discrimination presently appears in many textbooks in current use, both in terms of neglect of consideration and in respect to "slanted" or biased presentations:
RESOLVED, that the AFT Research Department investigate discriminatory treatment and biased presentations in textbooks and report to the membership on its findings; and
RESOLVED, that all members use all legitimate means to correct such misconceptions.
