DEFENSE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION
WHEREAS, the strong support for tuition tax credits and vouchers threatens the viability of public education; and
WHEREAS, in an era of ever rising inflation there are continuing strong pressures to cut budgets and seriously damage educational programs; and
WHEREAS, critics have blamed schools, teachers and parents for the increasing crime rate; and
WHEREAS, schools play a vital role in stabilizing neighborhoods and the perceptions about schools are directly related to property value:
RESOLVED, that parents and teachers work closely to combat the many threats to public schools; and
RESOLVED, that locals establish ongoing parent outreach programs to educate parents to these problems; and
RESOLVED, that locals work with parents in the preparation and dissemination of educational materials in support of public education.
