AFT Resolution
DECAY OF THE EDUCATIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE
WHEREAS, school buildings in urban centers throughout the nation are suffering from severe deterioration; and
WHEREAS, fiscal problems facing local governments have resulted in the absence of funds for school repair and maintenance; and
WHEREAS, the Reagan administration budget policies have deprived state and local governments of funds required for the repair and maintenance of school buildings:
RESOLVED, that the AFT convene a "blue ribbon" panel made up of educators, labor leaders, parents, and private sector representatives to analyze the state of school buildings and recommend a national policy for school repair, maintenance, and replacement.
