AFT Resolution
COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
WHEREAS, collective bargaining is the key to union strength and solidarity; and
WHEREAS, many public employees are denied the right to collective bargaining; and
WHEREAS, agreements that bypass the collective bargaining process tend to weaken organized labor:
RESOLVED, that AFT reaffirm its commitment to the collective bargaining process; and
RESOLVED, that AFT shall join with AFL-CIO in working to achieve federal legislation that will guarantee collective bargaining rights for all local, state, and federal employees; and
RESOLVED, that AFT shall encourage its member locals to help preserve collective bargaining by avoiding binding arbitration of contracts except as a last resort. [Executive Council]
