CAUCUS ORGANIZATION FOR AFT CONVENTION

Each caucus which seeks to receive the rights and benefits afforded such organizations by the American Federation of Teachers for its conventions shall agree and submit to the following requirements. Annually, each caucus shall be certified by the secretary-treasurer of the American Federation of Teachers. The forms for certification shall be supplied by the secretary-treasurer's office. All requests for certification shall be received in the office of the secretary-treasurer of the American Federation of Teachers thirty (30) days before the beginning of the convention. Each caucus to be certified must submit the following information:

  • Each caucus shall have an official name which shall be used on all distributed and posted communications, literature and publications. Any communications, literature or publications not displaying the official name of the caucus will not be allowed to be distributed or posted at the convention site.
  • Each caucus shall have an official list of duly elected/appointed officers which shall be submitted to the secretary-treasurer's office. Each caucus shall also name an individual/individuals who will be present at a convention and be responsible for the organization.
  • Each caucus shall submit a petition attached to the certification form signed by twenty-five (25) caucus members, who shall be delegates or alternates to the national convention for the current and/or preceding convention.
  • Each caucus shall provide and attach a copy of its constitution and/or bylaws and/or written statement of the organization.
  • Each caucus is responsible for its actions and conduct of business at the convention.
  • A caucus which is not acting in a responsible manner may be refused certification for the next convention year if so recommended by the secretary-treasurer of the American Federation of Teachers with the approval of the executive council of the American Federation of Teachers. A caucus denied certification has the right to present its case to the American Federation of Teachers Council and/or committee thereof prior to the upholding or rejecting of certification by the secretary-treasurer.
  • Each caucus shall post a bond and/or cash deposit in the amount of one hundred dollars ($100) to cover any and all damage incurred by the caucus and/or its members. (Executive Council)
