AFT Resolution
CATASTROPHIC HEALTH CARE
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States is considering a catastrophic health care bill; and
WHEREAS, AFT retirees are concerned about the need to improve the financial coverage of retirees facing devastating medical costs not covered by Medicare:
RESOLVED, that AFT support and endorse legislation that would provide:
- unlimited hospital care;
- long-term nursing care at home or in a nursing home;
- drug coverage for those under Medicare;
- improved laws designed to protect the income and assets of spouses whose loved ones suffer long-term illness.
RESOLVED, that the AFT executive council study the so-called Catastrophic Health Care Law recently passed by Congress with a view toward lobbying for desirable or necessary amendments in the law involving benefits provided and, more particularly, the premiums and tax measures that are imposed by the law.
