AFT Resolution

AIDS PLAGUE IN AFRICA

WHEREAS, many parts of Africa have become afflicted with the debilitating illness AIDS; and

WHEREAS, Africa is not receiving sufficient international support to help fight this plague that has devastated populations and destroyed many once-vibrant cultures; and

WHEREAS, many of the recent developments in AIDS research have not been available in many areas where the disease is rampant:

RESOLVED, that the AFT, with the support of the AFL-CIO, seek legislation to send more medical help to stricken regions of Africa; and

RESOLVED, that the AFT, with the AFL-CIO, support tax incentives for pharmaceutical corporations who give generous help to the besieged African medical community as it continues the heroic struggle against this enemy of mankind.
